To bridge the gap between Japanese excellence and American market opportunity β one client at a time.
A few years ago, I stumbled upon Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on the way back from a camping trip on Long Island, New York. Sagamore Hill was Theodore Roosevelt's permanent home; however, during his presidency, it became his family's "Summer White House."
The house sits on the top of a hill very close to the Long Island Sound, with a short hiking path leading from the house to the beach. Right before the trailhead, there is a museum displaying artifacts from his legacy. As I strolled through the displays, something caught my eye: the Imperial Chrysanthemum Crest.
In 1905, Roosevelt acted as a mediator to end the Russo-Japanese War, and Emperor Meiji gifted him several artifacts to show his appreciation. I should also add that he was the first American president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for this effort.
While the architecture, location, and surrounding nature were sufficient for me to remember this park, my appreciation was deepened when I discovered the site's robust connection to Japan.
I highly encourage visiting the site if you have the chance to visit New York.
